Giant Clam Monitoring Program
Giant clams play a crucial role in maintaining the nutrient-poor conditions essential for coral reef health by filtering up to 1,000 liters of water daily, thus regulating water quality and nutrient levels. This filtration helps corals to thrive by reducing nutrient concentrations in the ecosystem. In this course, you will learn various survey techniques for monitoring giant clams and gain the skills to identify different species accurately.
Species Recognition: Learn to identify giant clam species based on their anatomical characteristics.
Global Significance: Understand the ecological importance of giant clams and the global threats they face.
Local Population Monitoring: Develop the skills to effectively monitor local giant clam populations using survey techniques.
