Sea Turtle Ecology Program

All seven species of sea turtles currently on Earth are listed as endangered, with some populations having declined by as much as 98%. Divers play a crucial role in identifying and monitoring sea turtle populations worldwide. In this course, participants will explore sea turtle ecology, understand the threats to their survival, and learn various techniques used by professionals globally to track and identify individual turtles, contributing to conservation efforts.

 

Identification and Tracking: Learn methods for identifying sea turtles and monitoring their populations through photodocumentation.

 

Ecology and Threats: Acquire an understanding of sea turtle ecology, their evolutionary history, and the global threats they face.

 

Data Recording: Discover how turtle sightings are documented and entered into local databases, supporting conservation efforts.

 

Issue Recognition and Mitigation: Develop the ability to identify challenges facing sea turtles and apply strategies to reduce local threats to their well-being.
