July 2026 Newsletter | Blue Corner Dive Nusa Penida

Well, it’s been quite a busy month. We have welcomed 2 new DMT’s into the professional family.  Nicholas and Joao and the start of Sunfish season has delivered.

Nicholas, our youngest ever DM student at 18 years old, completed his divemaster training with us and hopes to join us again next year to complete his IDC.  He likes teaching people, so feels like this is a natural progression and another string to his bow of interests.
Whilst with us he also joined the 2befit gym Muay Thai classes to try another martial art to compliment his Tae Kwon Do expertise.  Nicholas is off to the World championships later this year representing Norway and has a good chance of bringing home a medal.  Good luck Nicholas, we’re rooting for you ☺

Our second DMT to welcome to the rank of dive pros is Joao.  Joao got affectionately nicknamed the boomerang as he kept coming back, not least because he kept being caught up in unfortunate incidents and accidents that delayed his course (Joao is allergic to scooter travel 😉 ), so Joao also gets the title of longest DM course to date☺

We were super happy to welcome a team of 12 American teachers from bookbag tours to join us on our Manta and coral restoration courses.  They joined us for 3 days of diving/snorkelling and proceeded to learn about how to recognise, sex and size mantas and what threats they face globally. They collected data and photos and uploaded the results to the database.
The team also learned about different coral species, our restoration project and joined in in adding some new frames and ropes and transplanting corals to grow and stabilise the coral restoration area here at our Sental site in Nusa Penida.

Elsewhere, and to the real fun of our reports, the DIVING!
Although July is technically Mola season and we do see them, this year our July sightings have been awesome and we have had some phenomenal encounters with these weird fish enigmas.  We continue to offer our (weather-dependent) Mola hunting and new or rarely visited advanced site diver options, so drop us a text or email to ask for details.
Blue Corner has delivered on almost every trip, and Crystal Bay, although well known and very busy at times, also gave us multiple Mola mola encounters.

The Mantas have also been showing off for us when the weather has been good enough to visit them, with several views of mating trains and getting some super close fly-bys.  Sadly, we had some very difficult weather where the wind was very strong, making trips difficult to predict and organise.  Hopefully things have calmed down now.

If you are not already following our Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok updates, now would be a good time to follow to see how the season is going.
